Funda of DoFollow and NoFollow Links

From quite a long time I really tried hard to understand the concept of dofollow and nofollow link. When I used to blog at blogger.com few years back, I thought every link which is connected to my site was good and never used dofollow or nofollow tags in my post. After I started reading more about blogging and page rank, I came to know that, these tags are very helpful in building good page rank for our website. If you also not give importance to dofollow and nofollow attributes and think they are of no use, then you should read this article carefully.
What is a link?
First of all lets understand, what is a simple link ? Link in general term is a relationship between two things and in the internet terms, it is the source to external website or page for more information, which we can click. As a blogger and webmaster we all use links in our daily blogging life to connect to visitor to relevant website, article or affiliate. So links are very important in every post.

What is dofollow and nofollow links ?
If we talk about dofollow and nofollow links, let me tell you that, both are just normal links with rel HTML attribute but their right use is very important. Both nofollow and dofollow links play a major role in your page rank and are important from SEO point of view. Also both have advantage and disadvantage. When I search the web, I found that there are lots of bloggers who want to understand the basic difference between dofollow and nofollow links and when to use them.

Dofollow Links : Any link with dofollow rel attribute in link, is a dofollow link and this type of link generally passes page rank and site authority to linked site. Suppose you have a page rank 4 blog and you are connecting some XYZ website having low page rank with a dofollow attribute, then your page rank juice is passed to those website. This is the main reason why new blog owner try to post their link in dofollow blogs and build dofollow backlinks.

Nofollow Links : Any link with nofollow rel attribute in link, is a nofollow link and this type of link do not passes page rank and site authority to linked site and instruct search engines that we do not want to follow this website and the link is for informational purpose only.
Nofollow links doesn’t mean that the search engine will not follow that website, it will follow the link but will not transfer your pagerank to linked website.

When to use dofollow and nofollow links ?
There is a lot of discussion and confusion on topic “when to use dofollow and nofollow links”. The answer in simple to my understanding. As I already told you above that dofollow link will pass your pagerank juice to the linked site and nofollow link will not. So do you think it is worth to connect high PR websites like Google, Wikipedia, Mashable with a dofollow link ? I will recommend you to use nofollow attribute, whenever you are linking to a high page rank website and use dofollow link, when you want to share your page rank with others like guest bloggers or your own website and internal post. Never use a nofollow link for your own internal posts.
